Former Basketball Coaches Without Boundaries Youth Summer Basketball League volunteer Marcus West, at 18 year of age, provided peer-to-peer support to the youths of Frederick County as an assistant coach for our 2001 Youth Summer League Senior Division Chicago Bulls team. Although, Marcus never played in the league because when the league started in 2000 - Marcus was too old to play, Marcus's love for the game and his commitment to helping youths learn the game of basketball, joined our BCWB volunteers as a coach. A former local high school player, Marcus played Junior College basketball at San Jacinto College and after a successful Junior College career, Marcus now plays Basketball for Division I  Fresno State University. Marcus is a true success story of how commitment to youth, community and believing in himself has lead Marcus to a very successful season at the Division I Basketball level. Marcus had two huge games against Louisiana Tech and SMU and was named gobulldogs.com's Athlete of the Week. Marcus had a great game against La Tech, picking up his first career double-double by pouring in 16 points while grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds. Marcus played a full 50 minutes in the Bulldogs' 80-75 double overtime loss to Tech.

Just two days later, Marcus was even more impressive in leading Fresno State past SMU 75-74, again in double overtime. Marcus scored a career-high 32 points and netted nine three-pointers, tying a Fresno State and WAC record. Marcus also picked up five rebounds and played 49 minutes. His 99 minutes played set a program Marcus Westrecord for most over a two-game span.  For his efforts, Marcus was also named WAC Player of the Week.

The Lowdown: Named the 26th-best JC transfer in the nation by CBSSportsline.com a steady, smooth player who understands the game very well a quiet assassin who is deadly from beyond the arc comes to Fresno State after establishing himself as one of the top shooters at the junior college level.

San Jacinto Junior College: Played two years, helping lead San Jacinto to a conference championship in 2002 and a co-championship in 2003 led his league in three-point percentage was a member of the NJCAA All-Tournament team after guiding San Jacinto to the national championship game of the national JC tournament made 43 percent of his three-pointers last year averaged 16.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore during his freshman season, he scored at a 14.5 per game clip and finished second on the squad in three-pointers and three-point percentage also grabbed 5.5 boards per game his rookie campaign.

High School: Lettered two years at Thomas Johnson High School led his team to a 47-5 combined record his junior and senior seasons his team won the Maryland state championship when he was a senior.

Personal: Born April 4, 1983 parents names are Denise and Leon West has two brothers, Rojack and Jamaal lists his favorite athlete as Allen Iverson lists his favorite athletics moment as when he scored 40 points and hit 11 threes in a game.
